Multiple explosions rock Maiduguri, ahead of Buhari’s visit

About five persons have been confirmed dead and many injured after multiple explosions suspected to have emanated from the Boko Haram insurgents rocked Maiduguri, the Borno State capital ahead of President Muhammadu Buhari’s visit to the state.

The bombs believed to have been fired from outside the town began to land on different locations around Maiduguri International Airport at about 10:45 am, just a few hours before the president’s arrival.

However, despite the incident, Buhari arrived in Maiduguri, where he was to commission various projects.

The President, who then carried on with his schedule as planned began with the commissioning of an edifice donated by Mohammed Indimi to the University of Maiduguri.

Afterwards, he waz expected to proceed to commission some projects executed by the Borno State Government including a 10km dual carriageway, a flyover, and a mega secondary school.

Meanwhile, witnesses and security sources familiar with the incident confirmed that at least five motorised explosives landed in residential areas, killing and injuring many civilians.

A source who spoke to newsmen on the phone said one of the bombs landed in the Ayafe suburb of Ngomari, killing four persons including a 16 years old girl.

Official statements regarding the development are expected within the hour.
